Cost 只用於花費多少金額，主詞是物品或it 。Cost不用在花時間且主詞不會是人。
The laptop cost me $45,000. 這筆記型電腦花了我45,000 元。
Cost 也可以是名詞，是指花費或開銷。
The cost of the tour is $6,000 each person. 團費是每人6,000 元。
Take 只用於花費時間，主詞可以是it 或花時間做的事。注意take 後加所做的事時，要用 to 動詞 ( 不定詞) ，放句首時要用動名詞。
It took me 3 hours to write the report. 我花了3 小時寫這報告。
Writing the report took me 3 hours. 寫這報告花了我3 小時。
Spend只能以人當主詞，和cost，take不同的是，人是「有選擇」地花費金錢或時間在某件事物上。
I spend 1 hour exercising every morning. 我每天早上花1小時運動。要注意花多少時間做某事時，事情要用動名詞（V-ing）。
I spent $5,000 on the suitcase. 我花5千元買這個行李箱。花多少錢在某樣物品上時，介係詞要用on。■
